Spain (pronounced /ˈspeɪn/ ( listen) spayn; Spanish: España, pronounced [esˈpaɲa] ( listen)), officially the Kingdom of Spain (Spanish: Reino de España), is a country and member state of the European Union located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Its mainland is bordered to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea except for a small land boundary with the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar; to the north by France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay; and to the northwest and west by the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal.

Spanish territory also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast, and two autonomous cities in North Africa, Ceuta and Melilla, that border Morocco. Furthermore, the town of Llívia is a Spanish exclave situated inside French territory. With an area of 504,030 km², it is the second largest country in Western Europe and the European Union after France.

Because of its location, the territory of Spain was subject to many external influences since prehistoric times and through to its dawn as a country. Conversely, it has been an important source of influence to other regions, chiefly during the Modern Era, when it became a global empire that has left a legacy of over 400 million Spanish speakers today, making it the world's second most spoken first language.

Spain is a democracy organised in the form of a parliamentary government under a constitutional monarchy. It is a developed country with the ninth largest economy in the world by nominal GDP, and very high living standards (15th highest Human Development Index), including the tenth-highest quality of life index rating in the world, as of 2005. It is a member of the United Nations, European Union, NATO, OECD, and WTO.

A. Yes, the Swiss type C residence permit waives the visa requirement to the other Schengen countries; same applies to a visa issued by Switzerland if it is a type C visa and it states valid for "Schengen States" in the first column. Source(s): ..

Which is the most convenient way to travel in Spain ?
Q. Greetings, I am planning to go on a 10 day trip in Spain starting with the 17th of September 2007. I will be arriving in Barcelona, but still I want to visit some of the others Spain cities as well. For now I think at: Sevillia, Madrid, Granada, Valencia. Can anyone indicate me a cheap and fast way to travel through Spain. Is it by train ? Is it by bus ? Is it by low cost air operators ? It would be great if you could also tell me which company I should choose.

A. I will tell you right off the bat that you would really be rushing it to try to do justice to all those places in ten days. With Barcelona as your starting point -- you are 1130 Kilometers or 700 miles from Seville. It's a five hour train ride from Barcelona to Madrid. The best way to really see Spain is by car in my opinion and car rental is about the same price as train fare between major cities -- although you really don't need a car in any of the major cities you mentioned -- but you can miss a lot of stuff that is in between major destinations. I think you need at least three days in both Barcelona and Madrid. You can also take the AVE a very fast train that can get you to Cordoba from Madrid in 2 hours and Seville in 2 1/2… [cont.]

What is the difference in spanish form spain and spanish from mexico?
Q. What is the difference in spanish form spain and spanish from mexico? I would to like to learn spanish from spain ant take trips to europe, But my mom wants me to learn spanish from mexico because we live in texas. Give me an answer and you opinion on which language should I learn.

A. It's SPANISH. The differences are minimal. You would adjust. I imagine, it's fairly difficult to find a Peninsular Spanish course in your area at all, since most of the teachers would have learned Mexican. Actually, it's not classified as Spanish from Mexico, but as Spanish from Latin America. Think of it this way...English from England? or from the US? Mutually understandable. Minor differences, mostly in slang and accent. Couple of grammatical things. LOTS of regional differences within those two major classifications. Same thing.
