The name of the city is often shortened to Salt Lake or SLC. With an estimated population of 183,171, the city lies in the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, which has a total estimated population of 1,130,293. Salt Lake City is further situated in a larger urban area known as the Wasatch Front, which has an estimated population of 2,298,915. The city was founded in 1847 as Great Salt Lake City by a group of Mormon pioneers led by their prophet, Brigham Young, who left behind hostility and violence in the Midwestern United States. They extensively irrigated and cultivated the arid valley and faced prosecution from the U.S. government for their practice of polygamy, which was officially discontinued in 1890. Today, Salt Lake City is still home to the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS, also known as the Mormon Church). Mining booms and the construction of the first transcontinental railroad initially brought economic growth, and the city was nicknamed the Crossroads of the West. Salt Lake City has since developed a strong outdoor recreation tourist industry based primarily on skiing. Salt Lake City was host to the 2002 Winter Olympics and is the industrial banking center of the United States. From Wikipedia under the

I wanted to know from locals or people who have been there... What is the list of must-see things if I only have 1 day there? Thanks in advance! Asked by abatardi - Fri Jun 15 22:03:13 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. If you like the outdoors, go hiking or biking up Little or Big Cottonwood Canyon, 15-20 minutes from Salt Lake City. Millcreek and Emigration Canyonalso have great hiking and are closer to the city. Snowbird Resort in Little Cottonwood has a tram that goes to the top of the canyons, a zipline, alpine slide and rock climbing wall. Temple Square and This is the Place Heritage Park both showcase the state's Mormon heritage. If you like shopping, you can go the Gateway shopping center, which is outdoors and has a ton of stores. If you want a quick tour of downtown, the TRAX train system is free in the city's center (from the Delta Center, where the Jazz play, to the giant Grand American hotel). Note the city is currently redoing a huge… [cont.] Answered by me! - Tue Jun 19 11:49:25 2007 What car to rent for driving from Salt Lake City to Yellowstone? Q. This sounds like a silly question but thought I'd ask anyways. I'll be vacationing in the Salt Lake City and Yellowstone areas for about 10 days in September. The two of us will have only 2 suitcases. I estimate that we will drive about 1500 miles during our trip, so the car should be comfortable and easy to drive. Given the altitude and perhaps mountainous driving should we rent a car with 6 cylinders (e.g. Chevy Impala) or will a 4 cylinder engine be adequate (Ford Focus)? Asked by chonudi - Thu Aug 30 12:16:03 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I wouldn't worry too much about getting a 6-cyl. Do your homework and you should be able to find a really good deal on a reasonable car. A Ford Focus or Chevy Cobalt will be plenty comfy for two people and could save you a ton of $$$ Answered by Flyer - Thu Aug 30 12:21:00 2007 How can I find out a budget plan for Salt Lake City Utah from a fixed amount of income?

Please Help ***budget planners or help are great, any websites? Asked by karmelcoloredprincess47 - Tue Aug 19 00:26:08 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Congratulations on your scholarship and being smart about managing your money! Here is a possible plan: -Make a list or spreadsheet of your current monthly costs. Don't forget to include annual, semi-annual or irregular costs such as renters insurance, travel, books, etc. by breaking them down on a monthly basis and including that cost in the list. Allow at least a few dollars (10 - 20% of the monthly total would be great) a month for savings in case of unplanned expenses, emergencies, etc. Additional suggestions can be found at -research on etc. to determine cost of living and other differences. Add or modify the monthly budget items from above to come up with a revised budget that reflects expected costs in Salt Lake. Good Luck!
