What is the cheapest way to search for my Portuguese grandfather, who live and died in Portugal?
Q. Unfortunately I do not have any details other than his name and his place of birth. I need to obtain his birth certificate, I have contacted the Portuguese authorities but with out a birth certificate they have no way of narrowing down their search. Any information is greatly appreciated.

What's the difference between Brazilian portuguese and Portugal portuguese?
Q. I was told that Brazilian portuguese is a more beautiful language compared to the portugese spoken in Portugal.

A. Those that say differences between European Portuguese (EP) and Brazilian Portuguese (BP) are similar to British English and American English, obviously aren't familiar with both languages. The differences are huge. Regarding beauty...well, that's subjective, and I bet they were talking about accent. I've met some American ladies that were learning BP (as it is more advertised in the US than EP is) and as soon as they had contact with EP, they fell in love with this variant and quit studying BP. Most people prefer to study BP because it is much easier. Brazilians tend to simplify everything specially when it comes down to grammar. They also borrow a lot of words from English, therefore, it makes it very easy for English speakers to learn… [cont.]

How to apply Portuguese nationality passport for my husband?
Q. We have married more than 3 years but I had a previous marriage dissolved. But I never register my previous marriage on my Portuguese Birth Cretificate and ID, would that make any different to apply. I knew we need to register for marriage first, then what next?

A. You will have now to deal with the complicated burocracy of the portuguese. Register your marriage and divorce (dissolved marriage) in your birth certificate, change your ID card to married then change it to divorcee angain and only then, register your new marriage. It will be three years from the marriage date before you can apply for citinzenship for him, so he can have a passport. So I d say, at least 4 years in the wait. OR You can go to the portuguese consulate, register your new marriage and wait for 3 years to ask for citizenship for your husband so he can get a passport. But NEVER under any circumstance declare that you had a previous marriage. That way it will save you a lot of trouble. Also, if you changed your name, you will… [cont.]
