Designed as the lexical companion to Wikipedia, the encyclopaedia project, Wiktionary has grown beyond a standard dictionary and now includes a thesaurus, a rhyme guide, phrase books, language statistics and extensive appendices. We aim to include not only the definition of a word, but also enough information to really understand it. Thus etymologies, pronunciations, sample quotations, synonyms, antonyms and translations are included. New Jersey (pronounced /njuː ˈdʒɜrzi/, locally [nuː ˈdʒɜrzi]( listen)) is a state in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. It is bordered on the northeast by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania and on the southwest by Delaware. New Jersey lies largely within the sprawling metropolitan areas of New York City and Philadelphia. It is the most densely populated state in the United States.

The area was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes the Lenape along the coast. In the early 1600s, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements. The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey. It was granted as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. At this time, it was named after the largest of the British Channel Islands, Jersey. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War.

In the 19th century, factories in cities such as Paterson and Trenton helped to drive the Industrial Revolution. New Jersey's position at the center of the Northeast megalopolis, between Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., fueled its rapid growth through the suburban boom of the 1950s and beyond. Today, New Jersey has the highest population density and the second highest median income of any state in the United States. Only Maryland has a higher median income. The Governor of New Jersey is Republican Chris Christie.

Do any New Jersey colleges allow livestock/pets to be brought on campus for agriculture?
Q. I will be getting a potbelly pig for a school project. I was wondering if any Agricultural colleges in New Jersey allow such animals to be brought. One example is Rutgers. It has a large agriculture program and holds other livestock (horse, sheep, etc.). Anyone know anything? Thanks!
Asked by Amanda R - Wed Oct 8 18:54:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Never heard of Rutgers. Any good? I heard people were trying to get rid of the NJ State Department of Agriculture. Seems like they don't encourage ag there. Anyways, a program with good management would not allow you to mix your livestock with theirs, due to bio-security issues. Especially pigs. I doubt the dorms would allow pets either. You could rent a place that allows pets. Maybe not mention this pet is a pig. lol
