Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and philanthropist. Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by Guinness World Records. His contribution to music, dance and fashion, along with a much-publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades. The eighth child of the Jackson family, Jackson debuted on the professional music scene along with his brothers as a member of The Jackson 5 in the mid-1960s, and began his solo career in 1971. In the early 1980s, Jackson became a dominant figure in popular music. The music videos for his songs including "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and "Thriller", were credited with transforming the medium into an art form and a promotional tool, and the popularity of these videos helped to bring the relatively new television channel MTV to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him a staple on MTV in the 1990s. Through stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style have influenced numerous hip hop, pop, contemporary R&B and rock artists. Jackson's 1982 album Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. His other records, including Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995), also rank among the world's best-selling. Jackson is one of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Some of his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records; 13 Grammy Awards (as well as the Grammy Legend Award and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award); 26 American Music Awards (more than any other artist, including the "Artist of the Century"); 13 number-one singles in the United States in his solo career (more than any other male artist in the Hot 100 era); and the estimated sale of over 800 million records worldwide. Jackson won hundreds of awards, which have made him the most-awarded recording artist in the history of music. He was also a notable humanitarian and philanthropist, donating and raising hundreds of millions of dollars for beneficial causes and supporting more than 39 charities. Aspects of Jackson's personal life, including his changing appearance, personal relationships and behavior, have generated controversy. In 1993, he was accused of child sexual abuse, but the case was settled and no formal charges were brought. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges after the jury ruled him not guilty on all counts. While preparing for his concert series This Is It, Jackson died on June 25, 2009, after suffering from cardiac arrest. Before his death, Jackson had reportedly been administered drugs such as propofol and lorazepam. The Los Angeles County Coroner declared his death a homicide, and his personal physician pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter. Jackson's death triggered a global outpouring of grief, and as many as a billion people around the world may have watched his public memorial service on live television. In March 2010, Sony Music Entertainment signed a US$250 million deal with Jackson's estate to retain distribution rights to his recordings until 2017, and to release seven posthumous albums over the decade following his death. GNU Free Documentation License What Michael Jackson song to dance to for a talent show? Q. I'd love to do a Michael Jackson song (may he rest in peace) for my school talent show next year but I'm not sure which one would be easy to choreograph and be school appropriate enough. I would easily pick Thriller, but it was done by a group the year before last marvelously, with zombie makeup and all. So it's out of the question. Any suggestions about what we could do? And maybe videos that show some choreography? Asked by ashley.jayne - Thu Jul 2 19:41:04 2009 - - 19 Answers - 5 Comments A. I think the best thing to do would be a mixture of a bunch of his songs with a little bit from each of the videos. You could have simple props for each and just do a few dance moves from each. You could do it along a time line too, either from younger songs to older or the other way around. I think it would be a wonderful tribute and a fantastic piece of entertainment for the crowd. Answered by bizzygirl - Thu Jul 2 21:42:14 2009 How did people react when Michael Jackson started getting white? Q. I think nobody can really know how Michael Jackson's skin's got white. I m only interesting in following how the public opinion reacted as he was getting whiter and whiter.I d just like to find on the internet articles from the 80ies that comment this colour changing of Michael's skin. Asked by alexiley - Sat Feb 7 19:27:52 2009 - - 5 Answers - 6 Comments A. His excuse is a skin disease but it is obvious that he is bleaching his skin. The disease that he says he has makes you have patchy white spots throughout your skin - he does not have this. Watch this and you will see him morph: He came out with Off the Wall in 1979 and there were some minor changes - still darker skin but a thinner nose and face. In 1984 Thriller came out and you could notice an even bigger change in him. By 1986 it was in the news that he was sleeping in an oxygen chamber that was kind of like a coffin and people really started to think that he was "weirding out". I grew up with Michael Jackson and it's a shame to see what he's morphed himself into. His talent is so unbelievable - but he never had a proper… [cont.] Answered by kincaid1 - Sat Feb 7 20:15:18 2009 How do you do the Michael Jackson spin to knee fall move?
Q. I was wondering how you do the move Michael Jackson did where he would spin, then land down on his knees after the spin. I can spin, but I'm not sure if I wanna try the knee fall on my own yet, without some help on it. Thanks to those who can help! Asked by David S - Sat Apr 10 18:09:00 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. It's annoying because when Michael does it it seems way too easy! If you look closely at his knees in any performances when he does this move, he always wears knee pads. This is to protect his knees because you will do serious damage if you try the move without protection. If you've mastered the spin (very well done, I am impressed!), then the fall should be easy. Just spin until you fall without thinking about it and you will achieve the same look. Try not to think about it too much and maybe study Michael for a bit. Do this on a soft surface when you are beginning an gradually you'll get better. Practice makes perfect, so I'm sure the more dedicated you are the better you will be (this was definitely Michael's frame of mind). I hope this… [cont.] Answered by R ch - Wed Apr 14 17:01:49 2010 From Yahoo Answer Search: "michael jackson" Michael Joseph Jackson (29 August 1958 - 25 June 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, and businessman.
