What are some of the ridiculous lies parents tell little kids?
Q. I am trying to collect a list of all the little lies parents tell their kids in order to get them to behave or just to avoid telling them the awkward truth. I am also looking for the crazy ones that don't seem to have a reason.

What is it called when a witness lies in a federal court?
Q. When a witness lies in his affidavit or testimony under sworn oath during a criminal trial. Thanks.

A. Depends what they lie about. If they lie about a matter that could affect the outcome of a case it's called perjury. Punishable by up to five years imprisonment. Edit: Contrary to what your other answerer says, it's not always called perjury. If you lie about what you had for dinner the night before, and that lie bears no relationship to the case, it's not perjury. It's just stupid.

How can I stop myself from telling lies?
Q. I don't know, lately I've been feeling like I have been lying so much. Not really big lies, but like Little white lies that just pile up. What can I do to stop this? It's really bad!

A. You're actually probably normal, about 60% of people tell *at least* one lie every ten minutes ( However, it is good that you're making an effort to stop. Nobody enjoys being lied to. First you need to figure out why you're lying? Are you hiding something? Are you trying to appear more interesting? More important? If it's the latter, then you need to first work on self-esteem. If it's the former, you need to investigate that. You need to look into the cause of why you're lying in order to reduce the amount you're doing it. In the mean time, try to make a conscious effort to tell the truth the operative word being "conscious," many people lie without even realizing it. Pay attention to what you're saying and more importantly what you're [cont.]
