How can I write a letter to help me get a permanent job out of a contract one?
Q. I have been on contract work for a company since May. My contract was up at the end of August, but was extended and is now scheduled to finish at the end of this month. The position is an entry level HR job and I have abaout 2 years of HR experience. I would like to write a letter that shows my appreciation for them having provided me with the work. I would like the letter to double as a way of showing my interest in staying on with the company (I know they can afford it) as a permanent employee. Any suggestions on what I could put into the letter would great. Websites with samples are great too. Thanks. Only legitimate helpful responses please. A. to change from contract to permanent is possible provided you have the sufficient qualifications and experience for the permanent positions offered in your company. The proper procedure would be applying through your immediate superior. You must not by-pass your superior and with his or her recommendation, you'll have better chances of getting the permanent job.

How do you address a letter to an individual in an organization?
Q. I've written a letter to an old teacher of mine. I only know the address of the school where they work. How would I address the letter? For instance, would I put the name of the teacher and then the school's address? That seems like the only why to me, but I don't usually write letters and I want to make sure it reaches the person who I intend it to.

How do I clean a letter jacket that has white lettering?
Q. I have a letter jacket that I want to clean before senior pictures and I have already taken it to a dry cleaners but it was mostly ineffective and expensive. Around the lettering there is white that is becoming off white, i think it might be felt or wool. Is there anything to bleach it safely?

A. A long-forgotten product that is great for getting whites whiter is bluing. Your grandmother probably used it. It even works on garments that are part-white. It's not a bleach, so it won't affect the other colors in the garment if you use it in a low enough concentration. Just get a bottle and follow the instructions on the package.
