Inspector is both a police rank and an administrative position, both used in a number of contexts. However, it is not an equivalent rank in each police force.

Australia

In Australian police forces, the rank of Inspector is generally the next senior rank from Senior Sergeant and is less senior than a superintendent (in the cases of the Queensland Police and Western Australia Police) or the rank of Chief Inspector in the other Australian police forces. Members holding the rank usually wear an epaulette featuring three silver pips, the same rank badge as a Captain in the army. In addition to the general rank of Inspector, some police forces use other ranks such as Detective Inspector and District Inspector.

Austria

In Austria a similar scheme was used as in Germany. At some point the police inspector was completely removed from the list of service ranks. The current police service has an inspectors service track with "Inspektor" being the entry level - it is followed by "Revierinspektor" (precinct inspector), "Gruppeninspektor" (group inspector), "Bezirksinspektor" (county inspector), "Abteilungsinspektor" (office inspector), "Kontrollinspektor" (control inspector) and "Chefinspektor" (chief inspector).

In Austria the "Inspektor" is a colloquial name for any detective which is used independent of the actual rank.

How does one become an asbestos inspector?
Q. I am located in Georgia but might move to another state soon. Does the EPA regulate asbestos inspector licenses? Is there a course you can take online? Any other tips? Thanks. I would like to hear from an actual asbestos inspector.

A. Each state has its own program. You really need the asbestos inspector and asbestos management planner licenses together in today's job market. The class takes a week and then you have to apprentice under a licensed inspector for a certain number of inspections. The number will vary by state. Then you apply for the license. I moved to NC from VA several years ago and I maintain my licenses in VA. How certain states view other state's licenses varies if you try to switch. No matter what state you do the work, you must have a license in that state that is current, so I don't do NC jobs. USEPA only sets the regulations for the training required and along with states approves the training. The license work is strictly a state function.… [cont.]

If I get a building inspector to evaluate my rental house, can my landlord evict me?
Q. I have been having terrible burnt rubber smells coming through my walls from my neighbour's unit. I rent a town house. The landlord will not do anything and nobody else will help me, even the health dept. So, I am planning on getting a building inspector in to investigate. Do I have the right to do this? And, can my landlord evict me for doing so?

A. Dear Tenant, First, your Landlord can ask you to leave through the process of eviction at any time. Whether the reason is legally applied or not. Meaning; If they want to evict you because you are the best Tenant they ever had, and even thou it may not be what you call a, "Legal Reason to Evict" reason. The Landlord has the right to terminate your lease whenever they chose too. But they do have to legally notify you according to the laws in your state, if they want the law on their side. As for the Inspector approach, if you can get one to come out and inspect, then I would say yes. Because it would document it as to making an inquiry as to what the smell could be and what if any health problems there are. As far as the Landlord goes,… [cont.]
