Hispanic (Spanish: hispano, hispánico) is a term that originally denoted a relationship to the ancient Hispania (geographically coinciding with the Iberian Peninsula). During the modern era, it sometimes takes on a more limited meaning, relating to the contemporary nation of Spain.

Still more recently, primarily in the United States, the term has also (or alternatively) been used to denote the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the Spanish Empire, usually with a majority of the population speaking the Spanish language. Collectively known as Hispanic America, this definition includes Mexico, the majority of the Central and South American countries, and most of the Greater Antilles. The nations formerly pertaining to the Spanish East Indies are sometimes loosely included in this definition, as their cultures have some Spanish or Latin American elements.

Why is it hard for Filipinos to accept that their culture is primarily Hispanic?
Q. Albiet the Filipino culture is a fusion of many cultures but the predominant culture is Hispanic, they seem to confuse geography and race with Culture when if fact Hispanics can be of any race and region of the world.. Thoughts?

A. I think it is a matter of pride that makes it hard for some Filipinos to accept that Filipino Culture is predominantly Hispanic. Religion alone plays a vital role in one's culture and I would find it hard not to associate Catholicism with Filipino Culture. That would mean no Simbang Gabi (Misa de Gallo), Mahal na Araw (Semana Santa), Pabasa ng Pasyon (Pasion), Nazareno, Santo Nino, Virgen Maria, Sinulog Festival, Mascara Festival, Todos los Santos, Flores de Mayo, Santacruzan, Fiesta (in honor of a town's patron saint), and anything associated with Catholicism. Religion serves as your way of life. Apparently, about 80% of Filipinos are Catholics. Cuisine also plays a vital role in ones culture. No Hispanic influence would mean all… [cont.]

How can you tell if a Hispanic is illegal but just looking at them?
Q. I've found some to be very smart by paying attention to our culture and trying to blend in. But as for the vast others out there wandering around out there with that dazed look, well let's just say all you people out there hammerring out racist on your key board...I'll bet you could spot one a mile away and know theres a 90% chance there fresh off the border. Can you tell a fish out of water? I've been around and have met thousands of illegals and Hispanic Americans, and have friends that are one or the other. So pleaaassseee give the racial profiling smoke screen a rest. It's not personal, it's buisiness. Check em' and send em'!

A. Can we solve this problem more rationally, like with a patrolled border? I think racial profiling's a joke, I think what's needed is clear and unmistakable legislation from the House that directly addresses Mexico, because Mexico's the biggest thorn in our collective side on this illegal immigration issue, and that legislation should state, in no uncertain terms, that we're going to be deporting people that are in the US illegally from that country. Plain, simple, and straightforward, no ambiguity, no negotiations, no wiggle room, just put it on paper in black-and-white, go make 2000 copies and post one per mile along the border, send one to mexico city, send one to every major city in the US, send one to all the police departments, and… [cont.]
