Why doesn't Yahoo Have a Tejano Music Category??
Q. Before you go and say go to the Mexico sight of Yahoo, Tejano music originated in Texas and is a blend of Tex-Mex music making it American. The artists sing in spanish and english...I was just wondering how many people in here would like to have a category for Tejano music where we could all talk about our favorite tejano musicians.?
Asked by unknown - Fri Aug 31 11:37:36 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. While I think it would be nice to see some sub categories for the country music section, and I don't mean to sound rude, but in all fairness, I think that a "classic" country section should be first on the list when and if they feel a necessity to break the category down. I think it probably takes a public outcry from the yahoo community to get their attention. You know, it just occurred to my that Yahoo has Yahoo Groups. Maybe there is something there and if not, if I am not mistaken, I do believe you can open a group for that particular subject though you would be hosting it as a moderator. Something to think about but not a bad idea if you feel there are enough folks interested.

Did anyone like Selena, the Tejano music star, and if so, what were your favorite songs by her?
Q. I know that I was saddened by the tragic shooting of Tejano music star Selena. I know that I was only 13 or 14 years old, but her music had a lot of impact on me. I loved her songs, and I thought that she was a wonderful singer. I was wondering if anyone liked her songs as well as I did?

A. When I have trouble finding tejano music from the past I go to Janies record shop, she is based out of San Antonio and has about everything tejano musicians have put out. She has a way of finding that lost cd. I am posting her link below and you will find a number where you can either call or email her. I hope this helps.. Good Luck. edit: after 2 cups of coffee I see you were asking about the Satin Jackets! You will have to probably go to a show to purchase them.

How can music be related with Criminal Justice?
Q. I have to write a paper for my American Roots Music class, which is about the history, culture and impact of music has had in America such as blues, gospel, jazz, country, rock n roll, tejano, etc. I have to relate music to my major which is Criminal Justice. I know some characteristics of music are its a discipline, its skill based, requires, performance, creative expression, writing, value identification, and etc. Any ideas on how to incorporate those or anything else about music to Criminal Justice? Its a one paged single spaced paper but its kind of difficult coming up with something for majors not related to music whatsoever.

A. I can think of two possibilities. 1) Prison-themed or prison-inspired folk or country music. Everyone from Leadbelly to Johnny Cash. 2) The role and history of concert performances in prisons, how they affect prison discipline, reform, etc.

Texas, San Antonio, Tejano culture?
Q. When was San Antonio founded? What places would you tell someone to visit in San Antonio? Who are the musicians that have helped the development of Tejano music? Name at least 3. Why are young people encouraged to participate in Texas's government? How can young people participate in Texas's government?
Asked by Redzi - Sat Oct 18 21:07:05 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The area and river were named San Antonio on June 13th 1691. But it wasn't until 1716 that the Spanish decided to develop the first presidio in the area. As far as where I would recommend, it would of course depend on the person's desires for the visit, Historically, and culturally, the Alamo, El Mercado, the Paseo Del Rio, the San Antonio and McNay Art Museums, the Majestic Theatre, the Witte Museum, and the Japanese and Botanical Gardens would be high on the list. The Zoo, and the theme parks are fun, as well as the Natural Bridge Attractions and Schlitterbahn. From a personal point of view, I would recommend that they also look into the museums at the military bases, and try to see something of the Alameda. Tejano Music actually… [cont.]

Do non hispanic americans ever listen to mexican music by their own wil and interest??
Q. IN mexico and south america, american music is sooo popular, they listen to it even if they don't understand a word of it. But i don't see much of this happening in America. I never hear any non hispanic American or Asian american person or African american listening to mexican music. And i don't mean shakira, and enrique iglesias stuff which is pushed on by MTv. I mean, mariachi music, or Mexican ballads, or Tejano music or whatever else. Honestly i have never ever met any American who listens to it. I know, however, many Americans like japanese music especially if they are anime freaks or jpop freaks. So why is it americans have no interest in hispanic music...as much as south american countries have interest in American music?
Asked by trobop - Fri Mar 2 10:28:33 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Mariachi music is actually popular and of interest to many people. More of a curiosity than anything else. I think it is true that you won't find many non-Hispanics listening to Mariachi music in their car CD players. Aaron Copland, whom many consider the pioneer of American music, spent considerable time in Mexico and was greatly influenced by Mariachi music. In fact, Copland composed a work entitled "El Salon Mexico." Many musicologists are now recognizing the sophistication and validity of mariachi music, and have elevated it to the level of a genre of Classical music. Now, I am not talking about the Norteno music that you hear in mexican taverns, but the real Mariachi music which dates back to the 19th Century.
