If you hired a dj, did you go with a one-man company or ask for the owner of one with multiple djs?
Q. Because when you interview various companies, you're usually meeting with the owner at each one. If you meet with a company that hires several djs, you wouldn't get to meet the one you are assigned to until the day of the wedding and they may or may not be at all what you want.

A. We went with a DJ we'd seen do many events. We actually attended 3 weddings where he was the DJ so we were sure of what we were getting. I would never hire someone sight-unseen based on the owner's suggestion. Good luck!

How do radio Djs play a requested song so quick?
Q. As soon as someone requests a song on the radio, it's played. it can be decades old, it can be any kind of song, but they still have it and play it in seconds. how do they do that? do they have a system? do they play it on a computer?

A. You're gonna hate this: the request is prerecorded, giving me time to hunt the archives. I then cue up the tune, play the soundbite as though it was fresh and there you have it. The better stations do have the music archived and catalogued so it takes almost nothing to pull up that tune. What if the song ISN'T in the library? No request is heard.

A. I was doing a Morning show a few years ago when I got a phone call that actually touched me. I was kind of in a rut... The radio gig was getting kinda old, I was not feeling as "pumped up" as I usually did, until this older lady called me. I was used to getting all kinds of calls, but this particular one got to me. she told me that her husband had just passed away a few days earlier. She went on to tell me how much of a fan her husband was of mine. She told me how lonely she was being in her big old house all alone. After talking for a while she told me that she was so glad that I was there too keep her company on the radio. she said her house was so quiet now, but at least I was there in the mornings to keep her company.
